Day 1 in Hawaii
Aloha!
So we arrived last night after 17hrs of travel. The kids did amazing. Bags all arrived an hour late but they made it. We had dinner and then found our condo and settled in. The kids crashed at 7pm (which was 1am EST).
The kids woke up at 4:30am (10:30am EST). So the plan was to go with our friends Mike and April into town. April and her kids were doing a 5km race and Mike and I went to the pier to a swim. The game plan for Sunday was to recover from the travel. We caught up with another friend Jasper Blake for my first ocean swim in a long time. I swam out about 1 mile and then turned around and came home. I was testing out my new Nineteen Speedsuit and getting use to the heavy current that is so common off the pier. Over all the swim felt good. I’m still not totally over my cold but it’s getting better. The rest of the morning was relaxing and then I built up my bike and Mike and I headed off for a 60km ride up to the famous town (and turnaround on the race) call Hawi. The wind was steady not nearly as bad as it can be. In years past this stretch of road the wind has blown cyclist right off their bikes so we had a nice day. I was tired and feeling the heat. We left at 1pm for the ride and it was 94 degrees. The big decision from the day was whether to wear my aero helmet or to use Coach Lisa’s helmet that is not as aero but will allow the heat to escape a little more. Will test out her helmet on Tuesday.
It was off to Cosco after the ride and then back for dinner and early into bed (lights out at 8:30pm).
So Day 1 was a success.
